There has always been a market among expats in Japan for comedy, but reaching them and converting through a complete advertising strategy requires decades of experience. We brought international A-list comedians, such as Jimmy Carr, successfully to the Japanese market in collaboration with high-end hotel brands, beauty schools and leading airlines.

OPPORTUNITY

There has always been a demand for upscale comedy events among expatriates in Tokyo. The key was being the first company to create an enjoyable midweek evening out, as well as a unique opportunity to network with other business professionals. The main challenge was getting A-list comedians to the other side of the world.

SOLUTION

Identifying beneficial collaborations with big businesses was essential to making this happen. Relations were formed with high end brands such as the Ritz Carlton, Hilton Tokyo, Yamano Beauty School and Virgin Airlines, which was an integral part of launching these events. This helped to develop strong partnerships with media, creating unique opportunities for expatriates in Japan.

RESULT

A series of events starring Russell Peters, Jimmy Carr and Justin Moorhouse were among the first and biggest international comedy shows Japan has ever witnessed. The events proved to be highly sought after and have sold out on each occasion. The largest English language based media such as Tokyo Weekender, Japan Times, Japan Today, Metropolis and iFlyer were key partners of the event series.
