Night Time Economy

We took full advantage of the ending of Japan’s archaic “No Dancing” law to establish permanent links with the UK through various political channels to stimulate Japan’s night-time economy.

We took full advantage of the ending of Japan’s archaic “No Dancing” law to establish permanent links with the UK through various political channels to stimulate Japan’s night-time economy.

OPPORTUNITY

The “No Dancing” law in Japan, known as Fueiho or “Businesses Affecting Public Morals Regulation Law” came to an end in 2015. Herein lay an opportunity to increase dialogue with the Japanese government and the night-time economy.

SOLUTION

A night-time economy association was created by Takahiro Saito (the lawyer behind the abolition of the no-dancing law). We were tapped to bring creative ideas and international partners into the fold, with a view to expanding the night market of Japan.

RESULT

We became the conduit between Tokyo and London through which all communications and opportunities flowed, establishing a personal relationship with the London mayor’s office. An official partnership was created with Sound Diplomacy – the world’s leading night-time economy consultants behind the UK government’s push to keep London a thriving 24-hour city dubbed Night Czar. Once these systems were in place, we reached out to – and fostered relationships with – over 1,600 venues throughout Japan.
